For 35 Years now in 2020. Amiga has been alive and revolutionizing the way everyone thinks about what a computer community can do. Now at the beginning of 2020, more PCMCIA and PCI cards are supported.

So, now, even more, Amiga users in 2020 can connect their beloved Amiga 600, Amiga 1200 or any PCI ethernet cards supported by downloading this Prism2 driver.

Over 13 new hardware IDs supported

So. What is this prism2.device driver?

This is a SANA-II network driver for 11Mbps wireless Ethernet cards based on the Prism II chipset and variants. There are both PCMCIA and PCI cards with Prism II chipset. So, this driver supports PCMCIA and CompactFlash cards.

You can use Amiga 600, Amiga 1200 or any PCI cards with the Prism II chipset with this driver in all AmigaOS 3.x, MorphOS, AmigaOS 4 systems and in PCs running Amithlon.

The author of this version of prism2.device supports WPA and WPA2 encryption, including both TKIP and CCMP/AES encryption modes. However, not all hardware supports all encryption modes.

Here are some of the most important changes

– Now recognizes 13 new hardware IDs for PCMCIA and CompactFlash cards.
– Support for older Intersil firmware versions.
– Fixed 64-bit software WEP.
– Fixed a memory leak.
– Better thread safety.
– Now includes driver source code.

It is fantastic to see AmigaOS getting support from all types of people. With this update, even more, Prism II cards are supported. The driver is maintained by Neil Cafferkey which is doing a remarkable job at keeping our Amigas up to date. His driver can be used across all AmigaOS systems except for AROS.

Such important support that Neil is giving to Amiga users worldwide is very important. Without him and others in the Amiga community supporting our beloved operating system. There wouldn’t be so much love. Such an update is very useful and its totally free. That is remarkable.

Roadshow 68k WebsiteGet this new Prism II Driver on Aminet

The newest driver is version 2.7 and can be found on Aminet. Just download it and put it into the folders that your Ethernet stack reads the drivers from. If you use Roadshow 68k copy it to Devs if you plan to use it.

We recommend anyone that wants to get their Amigas online to buy the Roadshow 68k package. It is totally worth it if you want to get your Amiga on-line. You don’t need MUI. With it, you just get online. This ethernet stack should have been standard in AmigaOS since the start. At Distrita office we use it every day. Also, it is the only Ethernet stack for Amiga that supports DHCP without issues at all. Even power Ethernet plugs work with Roadshow.

Amitopia Amiga Magazine plans to do an installation guide for Prism II and Roadshow 68k. So, keep an eye here. In 2020 Amitopia Amiga Magazine wants to be something more than just a Magazine. We also want it to become a resource for the Amiga community.
