Apple ends support. Microsoft ends support, and now the Apollo Team follows the trend, even though their mission was to support it for a long time. But it is not over for their Amiga love. It is just the Vampire V2 series! The V4 Series is still vital for the Apollo Team!
Saying Goodbye to the Vampire V2: A Personal Reflection
It’s always a sad chapter when something is closing, and today, that’s the feeling surrounding the Vampire V2 accelerator cards family for classic Amiga. After years of dedicated development and countless hours of fun for the Amiga community, the Apollo Team has announced the immediate End of Support (EoS) for the V2 line. Yes, they have even closed the support channel for V2 on Discord!
For many of us, the Vampire V2 was a game-changer.
It took our beloved, classic Amiga machines and gave them a rebirth after 2010! The Vampire V2 series of cards injected the supported Amigas with modern speed, stability, and capabilities. It helped usher in the Amiga renaissance we’re enjoying today. We owe the V2 a huge debt of gratitude for proving what was possible. That it gave the Classic Amiga the magic back that it deserved…!
The Inevitable Technical Wall
While it’s sad to see official support end, the reasons are completely understandable—it’s the classic story of technology marching forward.
The technical gap between the older Vampire V2 series and the current V4 core has simply grown too vast. The Cyclone III FPGA on the V2 boards is now maxed out, and attempts to backport modern V4 features were actually starting to make the V2 core unstable, the Apollo Team writes in their news.
When you’ve hit a hardware wall and the codebases are fighting each other, it’s time to make the hard choice. So, this means that as of October 23, 2025, the Apollo Team will no longer be providing official assistance, updates, or compatibility fixes for the V2. The V2 Discord channel has also been moved to a read-only archive—a place to look back on all the great times and breakthroughs we shared.
Apollo Team announces that The Future is Bright!
So, while we tuck the V2 into the history books with a fond salute, the true focus remains on the future.
The Apollo Team is doubling down on the Vampire V4 and the new A6000 from them. This decision, though tough, ensures that the team can pour 100% of its energy into making the V4, A6000, and future cores the best they can be, continuing to push the limits of what a modernized Amiga can do.
Thank you, Vampire V2, for the memories and the speed! It is still a nice upgrade for your Classic Amiga, but the team is moving on. We’re excited to see what the Apollo Team does next. I really hope for a Vampire A6000L etc. A laptop version?
