If you are a fan of RPG games, FPS games, or both, then this game is for you. The controls are easy to learn and the graphics are high quality. It has all the features that make it an exciting game to play. There’s plenty of value because there are many different levels to explore and challenges to overcome!

You might not agree and your opinion might stay regarding 3D FPS on Amiga, but then I would recommend you to try Trapped II for yourself that is presented in this article first. Because in my opinion, there is much originality to this Amiga 3D FPS game that many do not know about!

In this article, I want to explain in detail why Only Amiga Made 3D FPS Games are worth your time. Maybe you will have fun too! Because Trapped II is a worthy game to check out.

Trapped 2 for Amiga is an Epic 3D FPS RPG game

On the 22nd of June 1996, Quake got released for the PC and blew many people away. At this time, Team 17 also released their Alien Breed 3D The Killing Grounds (sequel) game which was mediocre reviews because it had poor performance issues due to low FPS rates in full-screen mode on an Amiga computer with even 68040-68060 CPUs at that time.

According to amiga.resource.cx, the 68060 CPU was released in 1996 by Phase 5 Digital Products in Germany and it is said that this release of the CPU product wasn’t adopted because it cost too much money at launch time for most people with an economic willing to purchase one (68060). A patch for the game came out later which allowed Alien Breed 3D The Killing Ground playability when combined with a Graphics card made available to be played at full speed.

However, Trapped 2 which got released in 1997 by New Generation and Oxyron in Germany got a 3D engine that was much smarter. So, it can adjust according to what CPU you use when you play the game. The other 3D FPS games for Amiga seem to be locked and that’s not good in my view.

AGA is Awesome but RTG nails it

Yes, it is true that the Trapped II 3D engine made for Classic Amiga is by far one of the most advanced 3D engines ever made for the platform. On 68060, the Trapped 2 3D engine flies at 30FPS on the slowest clock speed which is at 50MHz even! And that’s on AGA. If played on RTG there are no slowdowns at all.

By playing the game on a more modern graphics card, the FPS is even better. But to achieve 30FPS in 1×1 on 68060 50MHz is pretty stunning. These coders implementing this 3D engine were geniuses when they made this game! I would love to get in touch with these people because what they did was too much hidden for people back then to know anything about! Yes, even though the 3D engine and gameplay are amazing it’s only recently that Amitopia has learned more about Trapped II more than 20 years later after its release date of 1998–now let’s shed some light on it together! Because it deserves it!

Trapped 2 Game Features

So much work was made into making this game and with all the features it got. Amiga hearts will cry. Just look at the list here:

  • high-end 3D engine with scalable window
  • 17 complex levels
  • about 6000 frames of animation (4096 colors)
  • polygon monsters with 60 animation frames in 2048 rotation angles for smooth animation
  • about 550KB of vector objects as fillings and traps
  • a complex light system with up to 200 light sources per dungeon
  • more than 1000 different textures and hundreds of sound effects
  • lot’s of magic spells, active spells (e.g. fireballs, ice storms), different shooting options, 6 different weapons
  • monsters featuring fear, group modes, run modes, casting spells
  • specials effects like mirrors, lens flares, glows, fire routines

Also, Trapped II for Amiga features a nice map environment, containing informative game graphics info and when this runs silky smooth on 68060 50MHz in fullscreen and 1×1 pixels, then my view is that this game deserves so much more attention than it got! You can play it on 68020, 68030, or 68040. But then you need to adjust the graphics settings. Trapped 2 does have many options, but playing this on a basic Amiga 1200 or Amiga CD32 isn’t recommended.

I would recommend you to get a Vampire or a Warp accelerator upgrade if possible for your Classic Amiga or if you want to get into the 3D FPS genre on lower specced Amiga computers, then get the demo of the Dread Doom clone for 1MB Amiga here.

Trapped 2 Intro and Gameplay Revealed in this Video

Mind-blowing Game for the Amiga

After you’ve loaded the game. The game itself starts with a mind-blowing intro that is run straight from the CD-ROM itself. Then you’re set into this transformed world with magic and leveling levels. The creatures are in 3D, the hunted town is stunning, the walking and action are for the time pretty stunning. Walking, jumping is done nicely in the game. Trapped II also supports the mouse for looking around, which is great. A huge bonus point just for that.

Complex 3D RPG Elements in Trapped II

The Trapped II game is about demons that have captured Kaldrion. A mystical town that is now ready to be explored by a strong adventurer. They have done so to build up evil forces. All inhabitants of Kaldrion had to leave as the evil forces took over the whole country. It is now up to the lonely warrior which you play to help them. Along your journey, the story reveals it more and more with more cinematic movies explaining the game further and further. This is a very complex 3D FPS game for the Amiga and to see it forgotten is something that Amitopia doesn’t want to at all.

All of the codings are done by Michael Piepgras. The fantastic intro and all of the cinematic clips are made by Achim Koyen and Michael Pepgras which made my Amiga 1200 freeze back in the days. The music is done by Dirk Jagdmann and Klaus Morell which fits really well and creating an atmosphere that you don’t find in many 3D FPS games even on other platforms too. These people have all made something unique that more people will be able to play now thanks to Vampire and Warp accelerators.

Start exploring now! More people should get it and spread it around.

Unique 3D RPG FPS Design on Amiga

This Only Amiga Made 3D FPS game title is for sure a rare item. There is absolutely no connection with Doom or Quake or Alien Breed 3D or Breathless in this game. It got its own story, own weapons, own creatures, own music, and fantastic gameplay that you can’t experience so much on the Amiga platform.

Trapped II works also out of the box. The intro might be a bit heavy if you have a slow CD-ROM drive but the game itself will run. There are no patches out for Trapped 2 as I know. It means it’s pretty much bug-free while playing it.

Now it’s up to you! Get Trapped 2 for AGA Amigas, Graffiti or GFX-Card equipped Amigas. This game also supports using AHI if you want to use soundcard sound instead also! This is a game for all the likes unique and cool 3D FPS games and now with many Classic Amigas getting the power they need. Trapped 2 deserves to be played by you!
