Mount your Linux or NAS Shares as native Amiga volume!

This is a remarkable treat for Amiga users by Tobias Karlsson! It is a real NFSv3 DOSDriver for AmigaOS that makes it possible for AmigaOS to see Linux and NAS partitions!

Here's the breakdown I got from Aminet + GitHub:

Why it's a big deal

Old Amiga NFS clients (ch_nfsc from 1994, anfs) are NFSv2 over UDP, modern Linux kernels have removed NFSv2 entirely (no CONFIG_NFSD_V2, nfs-utils disables UDP). So they have no server left to talk to.

AmiNFSv3 speaks NFSv3 over TCP through bsdsocket.library so this works with stock Linux nfsd or Synology DSM unchanged. No hacks on NAS side.

How does AmiNFSv3 work?

Parts goes to L: drawer, while the DOSDriver NFS0: goes to various drawers depending on if you want the partition to automount or not

  • 1. DOS handler L:nfs-handler (68000-clean!)
  • 2. Drop NFS0: icon in DEVS:DOSDrivers = automount on boot, or keep in Storage and Mount NFS0: from CLI
  • NFSDismount cleanly stops it, next access remounts
  • Full read/write: CREATE, WRITE, REMOVE, RENAME, MKDIR, RMDIR, SET_PROTECT, SET_DATE all mapped
  • Pipelined transfers: 13 MB/s write, 14 MB/s read on real Amiga 1200 with PiStorm/Emu68! Default safe mode DEPTH=1, buffers ∼100KB — runs even on 68000 with 8MB.

Status: 0.1 pre-release, is that AmiNFSv3 is tested on a real Amiga 1200 with PiStorm against Linux and Synology NAS. It is verified byte-for-byte, even cross-copy Amiga -> NAS!

This is like SMBFS moment for NFS — now any classic AmigaOS 2.x or higher can see your modern Linux home dir as NFS0:!
