Good news for city builders!
SimCity 2000 on Amiga just got a new update — and it finally fixes RTG.
What was the problem?
The original Amiga version converted chunky pixel data to planar AGA graphics by writing directly to eight bitmap plane pointers. That worked on AGA, but Picasso96 RTG uses chunky framebuffers. Result: crash, because SC2000 overwrote Picasso96 structures.
What the new patch does:
The new SC2000RTG patch checks the active screen format. On chunky RTG displays, it writes pixel data directly into the framebuffer, skipping the old chunky-to-planar conversion. On native planar displays, it keeps using the original AGA routine.
One executable now works on both AGA and RTG, and it still works with Kickstart 3.0.
More than just a fix
- No longer locked to 640×512 — display, game window and city map now adapt to your screen mode
- More flexible for RTG users with different resolutions
- Screen mode selector now filters to compatible 8-bit modes only
- Also includes MIDI music improvements
If you have Amiga with RTG board, Vampire, PiStorm or Warp with Picasso96, you can finally play SimCity 2000 in your Workbench resolution without crashes.
