Amiga Makes It Possible

iBrowse vs Amelinium – How much do people need to pay to get full CSS support?

I paid for iBrowse. For every time they asked, actually. I wanted to support it. I really did. It was our browser for 20 years. It still is sort of, but now there is a new browser in the world of Amiga. It is called Amelinium!

But let’s be honest:

iBrowse is HTML4. In 2026.
Amelinium is full CSS. As it should be.

iBrowse costs money. Still. For a browser that can’t render the modern web. You can use it for Amiga sites such as Aminet and AmigaNews, but once you goto pouet.net for getting one of the latest Amiga demoscene productions. It looks crap because of no CSS support at all.

Amelinium is free. Made with love, for us. It can do all the Amiga sites, but also pouet.net! You can actually read the site as it should look and feel. But with iBrowse, this is not possible.

iBrowse: none interactive. No video. You click YouTube and you get sadness.
Amelinium: video support! Real YouTube playback on my 68k! I watched Pouet.net scroll effects, I watched itch.io games, I watched my own Amitopia frontpage — and it looks great as it should do.

And the speed… oh, the speed.

This is what fascinates me. On my Warp1260, Amelinium low-build is absurdly fast. Not “fast for Amiga” fast. Just FAST fast. Pages snap. No waiting 30 seconds for a layout to crawl like on iBrowse, just to look as it shouldn’t look. Amelinium is already lurking at Wayfarer web browser for MorphOS in compatibility and speed. iBrowse is already bypassed… What an amazing achievement by Pawel.

I opened pouet.net — my favorite demoscene home — and it rendered correctly. Not text-mode broken. Correct.

I opened indieretronews.com — images, CSS grid, everything where it should be.

I opened itch.io — and I could actually browse indie games on my Amiga 4000. On a 68k machine from 1992! I can’t download the games from the site yet, but that’s something that the developer will fix for sure.

And then Amitopia. Our own website. On iBrowse it was stripped, menu gone, layout collapsed. On Amelinium? It looks as it should do. Beautiful, dark, purple, orange. Like I designed it on any other modern computer system but now on my Amiga.

I love iBrowse for what it is. It keeps the Amiga machines online. But it belongs in its own corner next to AWeb and Voyager. Maybe one day it will have CSS support,… but until that day comes. I can’t get enough saying that You should download and install Amelinium today.

If you have 68k and you haven’t tried Amelinium yet — do it tonight. Delete that old guilt about the money you paid. The future is free, fast, CSS-complete, and plays video. Maybe this makes iBrowse developers wake up?

And it runs on any Amiga. Truly. Yes even on 68000. But, I haven’t tried.
