There is so much going on in the Amigaworld that it is hard to find all of it. Here we found a nice update of the Exult release for AmigaOS 3.x, MorphOS and AmigaOS 4. If you don’t know what it is. It is the open source version of Ultima 7 which was released back in early 1990’s.
Amiga AGA and Amiga RTG port of Exult
As computers evolve, we risk losing classic games from the not-so-distant past. ID Software was one of the very first ones to open source sources such as Doom and Quake. But in time more and more classic games have been open sourced. One of the most popular games Transport Tycoon Deluxe is now living an amazing life thru OpenTTD etc.
However. This news item is about Ultima 7, which is an RPG from the early 1990’s. It is still huge and got many following, and many consider this game to be one of the most immersive games ever
Exult is a open source project to recreate Ultima 7 for modern operating systems, using the game’s original plot, data, and graphics files.
Requirements for Exult
1) An AGA Amiga with a fast 68060 processor or An RTG Amiga with 68040 or Higher
2) AHI installed (v4.18 recommended)
3) 3.1 ROMS (3.0 ROMS may cause it to run slowly)
4) A copy of the PC game data files
So you need to have purchased the original Ultima 7 game to be able to play it on your Amiga. Be aware of that.
